Art & Outing Workshop

The Art and Outing Workshop program meets on the second Wednesday of every month at the Optimist Clubhouse in Boone. Keron Poteat leads this arts and crafts event for members of the Watauga County special needs population and can be contacted for more information. Check the calendar for the next session.

Express Yourself!

Express Yourself! joins various Appalachian State University departments with the Watauga County community to present a series of workshops for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. These workshops provide arts based activities in which university students and community members partner with community participants with intellectual and developmental disabilities to explore feelings, develop creativity, build social networks, and have fun. Dr. Kate Brinko, Director of Faculty and Academic Development of the Hubbard Center at ASU, and Jon Kwiatkowski, community Service Learning Coordinator, conceived the idea for the program and have been coordinating and leading Express Yourself! activities since April of 2004. The number of community participants per session ranges from eight to twenty with sessions being offered one to four times a month. Check the calendar for the next session.
