Welcome to Watauga County Special Olympics!!

Every spring, the Watauga County Special Olympics program invites athletes from the High Country for a countywide or regional competition that brings scores of local athletes to this premier event. With the support of local schools and agencies, this event draws considerable attention and may appear as the major portion of county programming efforts. Even though this event draws the biggest numbers of competitors, it represents a small part of what the Watauga County Special Olympics program offers through out the year.

From August through June, weekly training sessions prepare athletes to compete at the state and regional level in twelve different sports. Coaches also welcome athletes who do not compete at those levels and simply wish to be more fit and active. Recently, our program has begun offering seasonal multisport clinics to introduce current athletes to new sports and prospective athletes to the sports opportunities that exist. Additionally, Special Olympics recognizes the social aspect of our sports training and enhances it regularly with dances, gatherings, and sports events held just for fun.

Please explore this website for all the different program efforts established to enrich the lives of our community members with special needs. Information concerning time and place comes with more general information about our events. Contact information has been placed throughout the website to make it easier to follow up with any questions you may have. Come and join the fun!

We would love to hear from you. Please sign in on our guestbook!
